Violation of Maryland domestic violence laws leads to arrest

A Maryland domestic violence lawyer frequently sees a wide variety of cases that happen for multiple reasons. Because Maryland domestic violence laws are designed with the safety of the victims in mind, an

Ann Arundel County domestic violence lawyer will often assist people who have been involved in domestic disputes by taking legal steps to address the situation.

A 65-year-old man was recently arrested for assaulting his wife of 15 years twice within five days. Following the husband’s arrest on two counts of second-degree assault, the wife requested that she be given an order of protection. The court ordered that the husband be evaluated and the wife then requested that the protective order be removed so she could try to gain guardianship of him.

With Maryland domestic violence laws, there are several steps that a victim of domestic abuse can take to be safe in the home. A Maryland domestic violence lawyer can help the victim get a protective order. This applies to husbands, wives, people with whom the victim has been living with for at least 90 days, and a person with whom the victim shares a child.

If the dispute is with a neighbor or acquaintance, a peace order is used. There are three levels of protection against abuse. They are interim orders, temporary orders and final orders. The final order can give the person seeking protection custody of children and order financial support from the alleged abuser.

In the above case, the husband allegedly attacked his wife twice and she sought help based on Maryland domestic violence laws. As the husband is undergoing evaluation and the wife is seeking to remove the protective order so she can care for him, she may want to discuss the matter with a Maryland domestic violence lawyer.
