Senior Citizen Assaulted Over Car Damage

When you have an issue with someone, it’s best to discuss it with them in a respectful and mature manner. Hitting someone and stomping on them is never acceptable. Sadly, a man in his 80s was recently assaulted in Maryland. He has survived his injuries, but he is still in critical condition.

The attack happened on June 2 in Beltsville at Maryland Farms condominiums, located in the 11300 block of Cherry Hill Road. Surveillance video shows a younger man walking up to the older man in the parking lot. The two men appear to talk briefly and then the younger man punches the senior citizen, causing him to fall to the ground. The younger man repeatedly punches and stomps on the elderly man for about 30 seconds.

The younger man fled the area in white pickup truck. He still has not been located. The elderly man suffered critical injuries and is still in intensive care at a local hospital. Police are devastated over the brutality of the assault and hope to identify and arrest the suspect soon.

It is believed that the assault stemmed from an argument over damage to a car door. Neighbors are horrified over the brutal attack. An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the assault should contact police. They can remain anonymous.

Assault of Seniors

The elderly are vulnerable citizens. They consist of the largest population of people in the United States, yet they are often treated with disrespect. Many people try to defraud, neglect, and abuse these senior citizens. This population needs to be protected at all costs.

Maryland takes the assault of an elderly person seriously. Under state law, anyone who manipulates or abuses a vulnerable adult or tries to commit a crime against them faces more serious consequences than they would against a person who is not considered vulnerable.

There are many types of abuse that a person can face. There is physical abuse, which is when someone suffers bruises and other injuries. That is considered assault. A neglect case may involve dehydration, malnourishment, or bed sores. Psychological abuse may include threats, isolation, and controlling what a person can and cannot do. Financial abuse often involves fraud to use another person’s bank accounts and funds.
