Maryland Sex Offender Caught With Child Porn Again

Sex offenders often have a high rate of offending again. So when they get caught again and again, their charges tend to get elevated and their punishment increases.

On May 6, a 47-year-old man from Denton, Maryland, pled guilty to child porn possession. This was not the first time the man had been arrested for child pornography, though. In fact, the man was on supervised release after being convicted of child porn distribution in 2006.

This time around, the man was arrested for distributing child porn in 2020. From January to October 2020, the man was in possession of child porn images. He also distributed child pornography via social media. He used multiple usernames to log into a messaging app to send photos and videos of young children engaged in sexual activity. On January 24, 2020 and January 31, 2020, the message app alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that two usernames had uploaded child porn to the internet. The same IP address was used to log in to both accounts and it was traced to the man’s home in Denton.

On October 15, 2020, a search warrant was executed at the man’s home. Law enforcement officials recovered a notebook computer, a laptop computer, two cellphones, three tablets, and multiple micro SD cards. In the man’s bedroom was a piece of paper listing 26 account usernames and passwords. Two of the usernames were the ones reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Each electronic was reviewed and found to contain child porn. There were at least 5,000 child porn videos altogether. One video depicted sadomasochism, showing a prepubescent girl bound and in bondage. The man also used multiple devices to distribute child porn images and videos to other users on the app. He also had explicit chats with others about how he was sexually attracted to minors.

The man has pled guilty to the charges. If the court accepts the plea agreement, the man will be sentenced to 126 months, or 10 ½ years, in federal prison. He also faces an additional 12 to 18 months’ imprisonment for violating his supervised release.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. Once the man is released from prison, he must continue to register as a sex offender where he lives, where he works, and where he goes to school.
