Maryland man alleged to have resisted police faces drug charges

What exactly is suspicious activity? In many cases, Maryland police will respond to a report of suspicious activity, which will lead them to focusing their investigation on individuals who are alleged to have been performing the activity. However, the mere fact that suspicious activity is reported, may not be enough for police to apprehend an individual. As a result, when a defendant faces drug charges due to such a report, it may be critical for them to look at the evidence police are relying on when they make an arrest.

Police have used the report of suspicious activity as a basis for a recent arrest of a 24-year-old man. A report came into the police, alleging that there appeared to be drug activity going on in a local laundromat. An officer responded to the scene and began conducting surveillance.

After an undisclosed period of time, the officer approached the man and asked him to get out of the vehicle that he was riding in. The man is alleged to have attempted to run from the officer. The man was quickly taken into custody after police allege he resisted. A search of the man is alleged to have resulted in the discovery of Suboxin and Oxycodone.

The man now faces drug charges as well as the charge of resisting arrest. However, these charges are merely allegations at this point. If evidence is disclosed that could put into question that accuracy of the evidence that led to the Maryland officer approaching the man and demanding he exit the vehicle, this could pose a significant issue for prosecutors in securing a conviction. If used properly, this hurdle could result in the weakening of the case, which could allow the defendant to secure a favorable plea deal or, give them a chance at convincing a jury that they are not guilty of the crimes alleged.
