Handcuffs5

Child pornography was once a crime perpetrated by older men, but its popularity has grown in recent years. Nowadays, people from all walks of life view and download sexually explicit images of young children. Even teens are becoming interested in child porn.

An 18-year-old man from Allegheny County was arrested on May 19 on child porn charges. The arrest happened after Maryland State Police and Homeland Security served a search warrant on his home. Law enforcement officials reviewed the man’s electronic devices and found multiple images of child porn material.

The Cumberland man was having sexually explicit conversations with a minor. West Virginia Police became aware of this and they started investigating the man in February 2021. Washington County Police and Maryland State Police became involved later.

The man was arrested by Maryland State Police on May 19 and is facing multiple criminal charges. Those charges are pending. In West Virginia, he is also facing criminal charges, including using minors to produce obscene material, using minors to film prohibited sexually explicit conduct, displaying and distributing  obscene matter to a minor, and using obscene matter to seduce a minor. The case is under investigation.

 Who Views Child Porn?

The victims of child porn are getting younger. In the past, the victims were older teens. Nowadays, they are much younger—shockingly, even toddlers and babies are victims.

People of all walks of life enjoy watching child porn, but why? Who watches this stuff? Is it really a turn-on for people to watch children getting sexually abused?

Of those who are convicted of child porn crimes, most are white males with no criminal history. But why? There are three main reasons: sexual gratification, control, and a means of escape.

Many people use child porn as a means of sexual gratification because children are less threatening for those who struggle with intimacy. Also, when some view child porn, they feel as though they are a younger version of themselves.

Control is another reason why people choose child porn. If someone was sexually abused as a child, they may connect childhood with sexuality, and that’s how they exert control over themselves.

Some use child porn as a means of escape, just like many people do with adult porn. Some people use it to deal with feelings of loneliness or sexual frustration. Child porn can be so shocking to some people that they feel less depressed or anxious.
