Some families do everything together. They may go on vacation together, work together and even commit crimes together. This was what happened in Maryland, when two brothers were recently arrested for possessing and distributing child pornography.
The two men were arrested on the morning of May 28 in Carroll County. The 23-year-old men, from Hampstead, were charged with multiple counts of child porn. One man was charged with seven counts of child pornography possession and two counts of child pornography distribution. His brother was charged with five counts of child pornography possession. Both are in police custody at Carroll County Detention Center.
The investigation began in April 2020, when Maryland State Police received a tip regarding child pornography distribution online. Detectives were able to identify the men and execute a search warrant at their home. Law enforcement officials served the search warrant at the men’s home. There, they found electronic devices containing numerous child pornography files.
This is not the first time the men have faced child porn charges. Both men have been convicted of child porn crimes in the past and are registered sex offenders.
If a person is convicted of child porn once, why do they often continue with their addiction? Child porn crimes are punished harshly, so you would think that people would learn from their mistakes and stop viewing and downloading these illegal materials once they are released from prison. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.
Any type of addiction can be hard to beat, whether it is drugs, alcohol, gambling or porn. People do not just suddenly stop the addiction, no matter how hard they may want to. Beating any type of addiction requires a significant amount of willpower, as well as counseling and therapy. That’s because those who view child porn are often unaware of the consequences of their actions. They often diminish the situation in their heads. They may think the child in the porn images enjoy being in those situations. They don’t. These children are being forced into these situations, unlike adult porn. It is sexual abuse, which is illegal. Watching these images allows the sexual abuse to continue, which is why it is illegal.
Education and treatment can help a child porn viewer end their habit. However, a child porn addiction won’t end overnight. It could be a lengthy process and it’s possible that a person could experience some setbacks, just like anyone with an addiction.
Maryland and other states are cracking down on child porn. These crimes are very hurtful to children and can cause physical and emotional harm for many years and even the rest of their lives. Many children suffer severe psychological trauma from being sexually abused by adults they once trusted.
As such, child porn charges are punished harshly. Get help from the Columbia child pornography lawyers at the Law Offices of Todd K. Mohink, P.A. for aggressive representation. Fill out the online form or call (410) 774-5987 and schedule a free consultation today.
