For many people, getting married is like a science. Who should they marry? When should they marry? What personality traits should the person have? What is their risk of divorce?
When people decide to get married, they want to make it last. They don’t want to get divorced, so they try to find the right age to do so — not too young and not too old.
Want to know the right age to get married? Then turn to math. Studies show that the best ages to get married are between 28 and 32. Those who marry in this age range are least likely to split up in the next five years.
In the past, it was assumed that the longer you waited, the better. Now, that is no longer the case. Divorce rates rise again as you hit your late 30s and early 40s. In fact, after age 32, your risk of divorce increases by 5% each year.
There are several reasons why the age range of 28 to 32 is ideal. People are more mature and not just blinded by hormones. They’ve lived life as an adult and are responsible. Plus, they tend to have more money and assets, so they are financially secure enough for marriage.
They’re also not so old that they are set in their ways and unwilling to compromise. In most cases, they also do not have ex-spouses and children, which can always complicate a marriage.
Some sociologists, however, have their own opinions on marriage. They claim that the ideal age to get married is between 45 and 49 if you don’t want to get divorced. So if you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, there is still hope.
Also, some experts say that age should not be a factor. Instead, there is a best time to get married. The best time is when you feel comfortable and confident in your personal life and life. That could mean age 25, 30, 35 or even 40 or older. Everyone matures at a different pace, so there is no set age at which marriage should happen.
There are some things that can reduce your risk of divorce. Money and a college education are two factors that can reduce divorce, as are getting engaged before moving in together and waiting until you’re married to have kids. Other than that, determining the risk of divorce can be difficult. Marriages can end for many reasons, so attaching an age to it doesn’t always make sense.
Although adults can get married at any age, it’s probably not a good idea to get married too young or too old. Young people need time to mature and figure out their own lives, while older people tend to get stuck in their ways, making relationships difficult.
