Think carefully about child custody modifications

In a recent blog post, we discussed how you need to make vacation plans early if you have a child custody agreement with your ex. This is only one way that your life is going to be affected by the order. In some cases, you might find that the order gets difficult or impossible to enforce as the child gets older. If this occurs, you can seek out a child custody modification.

A child custody modification is a change to the previous custody order. This is sometimes necessary if the child’s situation changes. For example, the custody schedule that worked well for a toddler might not work well for a teenager.

We know that you might not be thrilled about having to go back to court. In some cases, you and your ex might be able to work out the new terms. If this is possible, you simply have to go to court to get the order formalized. You don’t have to go through a trial if the two of you agree.

When you are working on a child custody modification, you should think about all of the issues in the previous agreement. This will enable you to take care of everything so that you don’t have to go to court multiple times to get issues resolved.

We can help you to evaluate each option that you have for the modification. As we go through each point, be sure that you are being realistic about your expectations and abilities. Once the modification is finalized, you might have difficulties getting another one too soon.
