Seek protection when leaving an abusive relationship

Domestic violence is a horrible thing to have to deal with. As we discussed in a previous blog post, the instances of domestic violence seem a little more prevalent around the holidays. Some domestic violence victims might be wary of leaving an abuser during the holiday season. They might feel as though they are going to cast a negative light on the holidays.

Typically, family members of a person who is being abused are very thankful when their loved one is able to break free. This means that you shouldn’t be worried about what holidays are nearing if you are able to get out of the relationship. You family will probably be very happy that you are safe.

We know that leaving your relationship is difficult. This is especially true if the marriage has been a lengthy one. While it is a great thing to remember the past happiness, you must remember that your current situation is a dire one.

You never know when a domestic violence situation is going to turn deadly. The last thing that you need is for you to be seriously injured or killed. This is why it is so important for you to leave the relationship, but you have to be sure you do so in a safe manner.

We know that you might wonder if you have any legal action you can take. You do have the option of seeking the protection of the court. This court order would demand that your abuser stays away from you. If he or she violates the order, an arrest and criminal charges are possible. This might not be a foolproof protection plan, but it is a great place to start.
