Rise In Alimony For Men

When you think of alimony, you may think of men paying women. That has changed in the past decade, though. More and more women are bringing home the bacon. In many cases, they are earning more than their husbands. This may be great for the marriage, but when the couple divorces, the man may be entitled to alimony. States have no gender bias when it comes to alimony.

In a reversal, there’s been a rise in women being the ones to pay alimony to their husbands. While nobody is happy about paying alimony, many women are enraged about this.

Men have been paying alimony for decades, but now that women have to pay it, they’re just not having it. The truth is that even though roles have changed and many women enjoy working and earning money, they still have old-fashioned beliefs. They believe men should be working and making as much money as them.

This does not always happen, though. Many women marry men who have a “failure to launch.” They aren’t actively looking for jobs. They’re staying at home and playing video games or watching TV while their wives work. This creates a lot of resentment, especially when a woman has begged their husband to work and he simply refuses. As you can imagine, the women become enraged when they ask for a divorce and then have to pay alimony (or galimony, as it is often called) to their lazy husbands. In some cases, the woman has to pay upwards of $1,000 a month.

However, not all women are upset about paying alimony. Some men are stay at home fathers because the woman earns more. In these cases, the woman is usually OK paying alimony because the husband cared for the kids during this time.

Still, maybe the laws need to change. Many states are in need of alimony reform. Alimony was created many years ago because women had no property rights during marriage as well as zero ability to earn her own money.

This has changed. Everyone has the right to own property and earn money. In today’s economy, where jobs are a dime a dozen, there is no reason why an able-bodied person should be staying home and not contributing to a marital household, especially when there are no children to care for. Nowadays, alimony is some genderless thing in which resources flow from the higher earner to the spouse with the lower income.
