Maryland woman accused of armed robbery, theft of under $100

After an incident at a Walmart in Aberdeen, a woman was arrested and charged with several crimes. The Maryland woman is accused of armed robbery because she allegedly brandished a handgun as she attempted to shoplift less than $100. She faces multiple charges of varying degrees for her purported theft crimes.

On Jan. 30 at around 11:33 p.m., the woman is said to have attempted to shoplift from the Walmart. While in the store, she allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at a store employee who reportedly saw her attempt to steal a cellphone by hiding it on her person. As she supposedly attempted to leave without paying for her item, loss prevention officers approached her.

She then purportedly pulled out the gun again and pointed it at the officers, forcing them to back off. The employees called the police once the woman was gone, and she was subsequently arrested. The specific details surrounding how the police found her were not publicly released. No shots were fired, and no employees were injured. She is currently in police custody in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

The Maryland woman was charged with first and second-degree assault, robbery and armed robbery. She also faces charges of theft of less than $100, possession of a handgun and using a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. All persons accused of a crime are innocent until — and only if — proven guilty in a court of law. As her case moves forward, she will benefit from ensuring that her rights are protected at every stage of the proceedings and may choose to avail herself of any opportunity offered to enter plea negotiations as she focuses on achieving the best result under all of the circumstances.
