Maryland police say men stole items they were trying to pawn

Two men were accused of committing a string of thefts in Anne Arundel County on Sept. 17. According to police officers on the scene, they received reports around 3:30 p.m. about auto thefts that had taken place at a Sam’s Club, a Home Depot and the Annapolis Mall. Alleged victims of the thefts told police officers that their cars had been broken into and that computers, GPS units, tools and an iPad had been stolen from the vehicles.

Detectives working on the case apparently recovered the stolen iPad in a nearby county. The accused men were located while they were allegedly attempting to pawn some of the items that had been stolen.

The alleged thieves, ages 56 and 52, were taken into custody and transported to Anne Arundel County. According to reports, one of the men matched a suspect description provided to police by witnesses. Both men were charged with two counts of rogue and vagabond, theft under $1,000 and theft under $10,000.

Individuals charged in a similar way may argue that investigators falsely identified them as the wanted persons based on inaccurate witness descriptions. An attorney may be able to help accused individuals in this type of case by conducting an independent investigation to determine all of the areas of weakness in the prosecution’s case.
