Maryland Man Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Production

Child porn can be a lucrative crime. Child porn production brings in billions of dollars every year, so selling images and videos of children performing sex acts can bring in a lot of money for a person.

A man from Maryland has recently pled guilty to assisting with child pornography production that originated overseas. The 35-year-old man from Silver Spring admitted to paying social media users in the Philippines to collect images of children engaging in sexually explicit behavior.

There were multiple pornographic images and videos depicting at least five male and female children under the age of 12. Investigators found additional images depicting at least eight boys between the ages of 14 and 17 years old engaging in sexual activity.

Law enforcement officials searched the man’s electronics and found that he had paid more than $40,000 to the users in the Philippines who helped collect these pornographic images. In total, the man had collected five videos and more than 150 images.

The man entered a plea agreement, which means he will have to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. His prison sentence could be 17-23 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 23.

Child Porn Production

Instead of searching for and downloading child porn online, many people produce their own child porn. They may use their own children in the production or they may coerce or bribe children they know or children they approach online.

Child porn may include photos, pictures, drawings, movies, or visual representations of a part of the human body, if it depicts nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, sexual battery, or bestiality. It may also include any of the following elements:

  • Sexual conduct or penetration with another person or animal
  • Sexual penetration or conduct with a child’s sex organs and the sex organs, anus, or mouth of another person (adult or child)
  • Nude, semi-clothed or transparent clothing of the genitals, pubic region, buttocks or breasts
  • Any act of masturbation
  • Depictions of sado masochistic or sadistic behavior
  • Lewd fondling or touching of another person or animal
  • Act of urination or excretion in a sexual manner

Under Maryland law, child porn applies to children under the age of 16. Child porn production is considered a felony and comes with harsh penalties. For a first offense, a person can face 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. For subsequent offenses, the penalties increase to 20 years in prison and a fine of $50,000.
