Maryland man jailed for alleged role in Baltimore shooting

Detectives with the Baltimore Police reportedly traveled across the state and arrested a man at a traffic stop, claiming he was involved in a shooting in Baltimore earlier this month. The man was jailed without bond and is facing a slew of serious charges, including attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault and conspiracy, among other charges.

The man was jailed in the Allegany County Detention Center. The plan was apparently to return him to Baltimore.

The arrest relates to a shooting on Mortimer Avenue in Baltimore recently. Police say they obtained information that allowed them to get search warrants for a residence at which the man was living across the state, in Westernport. They also got warrants for his car.

Witnesses in Baltimore apparently gave police a license plate number from a car that was seen driving away from the shooting scene.

Police claim they recovered a handgun in the man’s Nissan, a weapon they think was used in the shooting. It will be used as evidence, according to the Cumberland Times-News. Maryland State Police were at the scene too.

The Cumberland Police CERT team also apparently searched the man’s residence, where police took additional items as evidence.

Attempted murder and assault charges are extremely serious. If the man is convicted, he may not only face jail time, but it would leave him with a criminal record and potentially damage his opportunities to find employment. It would benefit those in his situation to seek professional assistance to make sure their legal rights are protected.
