Maryland man arrested on multiple counts of auto theft

An incident in mid-October has resulted in a 21-year-old Maryland man’s arrest in early November. He faces multiple charges, including auto theft, in his hometown of Centreville. The man was arrested in Ocean City, where he was also charged with additional counts of theft and burglary.

According to reports, the Centreville charges stem from multiple alleged vehicle thefts that took place in one night. The accused was reportedly driving a stolen Mini Cooper, which he rolled over near a farm. When the farm owner came to his aid, the driver said that he was intoxicated and fled the scene before police arrived. Later, the farmer’s truck and horse trailer were found jack-knifed at an intersection. The farmer was unaware that they were missing from his barn.

A woman who had been behind the truck when it jack-knifed reported to police that the truck driver offered to turn her SUV around for her. She said that he then left the scene in her vehicle. Her purse with a checkbook, credit cards and identification were in the SUV at the time.

Maryland State Police and the Queen Anne County Sheriff’s Office worked together on the investigation. The accused reportedly had been charged over the summer with stealing the same Mini Cooper that was involved in the October incident. He now faces multiple charges related to theft and burglary.

Reports do not indicate what kind of penalties the man may face if he is convicted of auto theft or any of the other charges. Regardless, he would likely serve jail time and may have to pay a steep fine. He may do well to consult with a legal team that can review all the evidence and details of the police investigation. This may help them determine the best defense, which may result in a just outcome to his case.
