Maryland Man Arrested for Child Porn Possession

Child porn is a growing crime. It’s alluring to people of all ages, but particularly to men. While it may be exciting to look, it is illegal and immoral. It victimizes the children who are featured in these photos and videos. Young children—in some cases, as young as babies and toddlers—are the victims.

A Maryland man is facing criminal charges after he was arrested for child porn possession. The 68-year-old man was arrested on March 26 and charged with 10 counts of child porn.

The investigation began in October 2019. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off Anne Arundel County police, informing them that someone was uploading child porn to a website. Investigators located the account and found an associated address.

On January 15, investigators went to the home, located in the 1000 block of Biltmore Avenue in West River. The man, who was the only person who lived in the home, consented to a search. Police seized multiple electronic devices. They found child porn on a computer. The man was arrested on March 26.

Child Porn on the Rise

Child pornography is on the rise. The number of images being shared online is increasing dramatically. Only one thing is decreasing: the age of the victims. In the past, child porn consisted primarily of older children, such as adolescents and teens. Now, most images involve children under the age of 10. In fact, it’s not uncommon for people to view, download and distribute sexually explicit images and videos of toddlers and even babies. Many of these images involve rape.

The advent of the internet has caused the number of child porn offenses to increase. While most of these images are found in the dark web, which can only be accessed by using a browser called Tor, many people can access these images using their normal internet setup. Half of the websites that host child porn are based in the United States. While child porn is popular all over the world, this is where child porn has exploded in recent years.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is reviewing more and more cases every day. In fact, the one location in Virginia receives 10,000 tips about child porn every week. Arrests are also on the rise. They occur on a weekly basis, although the actual number is still small compared to the number of cases. Law enforcement agencies do their best to tackle the program, but their resources are limited and the caseloads are heavy.
