Maryland Man Accused of Soliciting Porn From Teen Girl

The laws are strict when it comes to child pornography, but that doesn’t stop many adults from searching for child porn images online or soliciting sexually explicit photos from underage children. Even married men, religious people and those who work with children may be attracted to child porn or young people in general.

This is the case for a Maryland man, who is currently in jail for soliciting child porn from a teen girl he met at a camp. The 41-year-old man from Westminster has been held in jail without bond since October 1. He is facing several charges, including sexual solicitation of a minor, soliciting child porn and preparing child porn. The man may have two other victims and could face additional charges. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on October 28.

The two met in July 2019. The 15-year-old girl, from West Virginia, was attending church camp in Pennsylvania and the man was a camp counselor. The teen went back to the same camp in July 2020 and after that, the two started communicating. On September 7, the girl’s parents examined her phone and found messages between her and the man.

An investigator from the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force interviewed the parents the following day. It was discovered that the man sent sexually explicit messages through Snapchat and Facebook Messenger. In some of the messages, he asked the girl for nude photos of herself.

When the girl returned home from camp, the man texted her a photo of several campers. That was when the man and the teen started communicating. The girl told authorities that she had sent the man sexually explicit images of herself.

On September 25, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at the man’s home and workplace. They found images of the teen girl on his desktop computer. There was also a video file of a 14-second Snapchat conversation. The girl was in the video, which depicted child porn. The girl had asked the man not to save the video.

An investigator interviewed the man and his wife and it was discovered that two more minors may also be victims. Both are Carroll County residents. The man has been asked not to communicate with them, as investigators are in the process of interviewing them. So far, no additional charges have been filed, although that could change once the investigation has been completed.

Pornography is reserved for consenting adults. However, there may be some confusion, as there are some inconsistencies in the law. Maryland law considers 16 as the cutoff age, but it is 18 years old under federal law.
