Maryland Driving Instructor Charged With Assault

Assault is a crime that is general in nature and can happen anywhere — in a bar, in a dark alley, at a sporting event, in one’s home, at work, at school and even during driving instruction. A Maryland driving instructor is facing sexual assault charges after his students alleged that he touched them inappropriately.

The Silver Spring man worked at Greg’s Driving School. He was recently arrested after two females, ages 16 and 23, reported him for inappropriate touching during their driving lessons. The 55-year-old man is now facing two counts of second-degree assault.

The first incident was reported on August 31. A 16-year-old girl alleged that the man had touched her in a sexual way. On two occasions, he also tried to have an inappropriate sexual conversation with her.

A 23-year-old woman also reported the driving instructor’s inappropriate sexual conduct. She claimed that the man had inappropriately touched her while engaged in a driving lesson on September 11.

The man was arrested and charged. He was then released after paying bond. Any other victims are asked to contact police.

What is Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault can encompass various acts. On a basic level, it involves touching someone without their consent. It can involving fondling someone, touching their breasts or genitals (even when covered by clothing) or rape (sexual intercourse through penetration). A person can also be charged with sexual assault if they are harassing someone verbally in a sexual way. For example, if a person is requesting sexual favors or is threatening to sexually assault someone, then they can be charged with a crime. Most victims are women.

Sexual assault can be traumatic for the victim. Many experience flashbacks of the incidents, or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some develop addictions to help them cope with the situation. Others may feel anxiety, loneliness, guilt and mood swings. They may be ashamed and actually blame themselves for what happened. Some victims become promiscuous, while some have trouble trusting others. While some seek revenge, some decide to move on without telling anyone.

When a person is raped, they need to act quickly. Some can become pregnant, but if they can act quickly, they can receive emergency contraceptives and prevent pregnancy. Moving forward with a pregnancy can be a stressful event, since the woman will always associate the baby with the perpetrator.

Along the same line, sexual activity without consent can also lead to sexually transmitted diseases. Again, those who act quickly can receive preventative medication so they don’t get chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and other STDs.
