Make sure you have a safety plan when leaving an abusive home

In one of our blog posts last week, we discussed the fact that not all cases of domestic violence have female victims. This is an important point because some men deal with things they shouldn’t have to just because they think that nobody is going to believe them. Men shouldn’t have to deal with that.

We know that men sometimes need the protection that a protective order provides. While they might not really feel like they need this, it is often an important tool for men who are being abused by a woman. The same is true for a woman who is being abused by a man.

No matter if you are a man or a woman, you should ensure that you safely leave the situation when it is necessary. There are many different aspects that you can think about when you are ready to go. A protective order is simply a court order that tells your abuser to stay away from you. It doesn’t give you a place to live or a way to support yourself.

You need to make sure that you have a place to go that can provide you with a safe haven when you leave your attacker. This could be someone’s home, a shelter or anywhere else that you might have some level of protection.

We understand that this is a difficult time for you. We are here for you to help you learn about what options you have for getting out of your situation. As you venture down the road of regaining your life, we are here to help you each step along the way.
