High school teacher charged with multiple sex offenses

When you are charged with a sex offense involving a minor, it can destroy your reputation and your career. This is especially true if you are an educator and the alleged victim is one of your students. These types of cases are followed closely in the media, and you might feel as though you’ve been found guilty before the trial even begins.

A teacher at Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland, has been arrested and charged with multiple sex offenses involving a student. The 39-year-old male was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex offense by person of authority and fourth-degree sex offense.

The Anne Arundel County police arrested the teacher at one of the school’s administrative buildings.

The police said a 16-year-old girl was touched inappropriately while in a closet at the back of a classroom. The victim said the teacher gave her a hug and touched her buttocks. Then the victim said the teacher sat down on a desk, pulling her toward him. It is reported that his face was in the student’s chest area and he told the girl she should have more confidence and that she was beautiful.

The victim met with Child Abuse detectives several times for interviews, which backed up the allegations.

Students and other children must be kept safe and not be exposed to sexual assault or other similar charges. However, those charged with a sex crime do have a right to a fair trial and an appeal if the verdict is not satisfactory. An attorney experienced in sex crime defense is important when there is so much at stake.
