Glen Burnie Man Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Child pornography is attractive to many people, particularly because it is forbidden. While adult porn is legal and widely available, it’s not enough for some people. They want to be shocked.

A man from Glen Burnie was caught with child porn in his possession and now he is facing serious charges. The 66-year-old man is facing 14 counts of possession of child porn as well as seven counts of child porn distribution.

The charges come after a months-long investigation. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that someone was uploading child porn. The Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit began investigating the case on December 31, 2019. Police also started an investigation. After executing court orders, the child porn was traced to the man’s home.

Detectives searched the man’s home on March 11. They interviewed him and took several electronic devices from his home for further analysis. Detectives found child porn on the devices. The man was arrested on July 2 at his home on Glen Mar Circle. He is now facing 21 child porn charges.

Are Child Porn Sentences Too Harsh?

Based on the charges, the man could face multiple felonies and spend the rest of life in prison. Are these sentences and punishments harsh, considering that many murderers and rapists get away with just a few years in prison?

Some people seem to think so, and for good reason. For distributing child porn, one man was sentenced to 170 years in prison. That’s pretty much two lifetimes. Many people are in prison for at least 10 years for downloading child porn, and these people have never even touched a child. Should they get stiffer punishment than those who have molested or murdered a child?

The biggest viewers of porn are teenagers. Viewing adult porn is acceptable, but if the subject of the images is still a child, it is considered a crime, no matter the person’s background or history. Teachers, police officers and other respected members of the community have faced a lifetime of consequences for simply viewing child porn. Their reputations are forever ruined. Their marriages and families have been destroyed. They now have a criminal record and find it difficult to work.

To say that these sentences are life-altering is putting it mildly. Even first-time offenders face a lifetime of misery. Wouldn’t it be better if some alternative punishment was used instead, such as therapy or education about the effects of child porn viewership?
