Drug and firearms charges brought against Maryland men

Drug charges usually follow an extensive and long-term investigation by several different law enforcement officials. Typically, these agencies will build a case with evidence they have compiled through joint efforts over a long period of time. In such cases, it may appear that they have a strong case to prosecute people that they have arrested on drug trafficking charges.

A Maryland drug investigation that began in January 2009 culminated in the recent arrests of 12 people, including six Maryland men.

Over the past two years, a drug investigation focused on several people who were suspected of distributing cocaine in the Washington, D.C. area. The investigation led to the arrest of three Maryland men and one man from D.C. back in April. In that investigation, authorities allegedly found cocaine, firearms and bullet-resistant vests, along with $600,000 in cash at the arrested men’s homes.

This past week, the continuing investigation led authorities to search seven different locations in Washington D.C. and Maryland. The law enforcement officials say that they found guns, crack cocaine, marijuana and $25,000 in cash as a result of their search.

Eight men were arrested in connection with this most recent search, including six Maryland men, and two men from D.C.

Most of the men are in their thirties, but the ages range from 30-years-old to 69 years-old. All of the men were charged with conspiracy and intent to distribute cocaine. Some of the men also face additional drug and firearms charges. All of the accused men have pled not guilty to the charges against them. Two other men that police also suspect of being involved in the drug conspiracy have not yet been located.

These men are facing serious charges, and if convicted the penalties will be severe. Hopefully, they will have experienced criminal defense attorneys to protect their rights and defend against the drug charges they face.
