Don’t stick your head in the sand when facing sex charges

We recently discussed how rape kits are crucial bits of evidence in sex-related cases. If you recall, there are some lawmakers who want uniform guidelines for how these kits will be handled. Currently, each department decides how long to keep rape kits and which rape kits are tested.

Since these rape kits are so important, they must be handled properly. When the kits aren’t properly handled, that information might become a factor in the defense. Of course, this isn’t going to occur in every case, so you should explore all of the options that are available for a defense if you are facing sex-related charges.

Other possible defense options might be mistaken identity or an alibi. In each case, we would need to have time to build the defense option to present on your behalf. The severity of sex-related charges demands that we don’t try to piecemeal a defense at the last minute. You need a defense that addresses your case instead of one that just tells a small sliver of the story.

We understand that it might be difficult to face these charges. Even though that might be tempting, you can’t do that. You need to face these charges head-on so that you can have time to explore all of the possible defense options that you have.

As scary as it is to face these types of charges, it is even scarier to face the possibility of prison time without even fighting against it. Take an active role in your defense so that you know you did everything possible to fight against the allegations.
