Child custody: Make spring break plans now to avoid issues later

Spring break is a busy time when many families in Maryland opt to head south to an area that is a bit warmer. If you have a child custody arrangement, now is the time to start thinking about your plans. This will take away the last minute rush that might occur if you try to handle everything shortly before the trip.

One of the first things that you should do is to verify that you are the parent who will have the child during the spring break period. If there is any issue with the dates of the trip and the dates you will have the child, you can address those issues with the other parent now so a plan can be worked out.

It is imperative that you take the time to verify the dates because you will need accurate information so you can make hotel reservations and other plans. You probably don’t want to deal with the headache of trying to change flight arrangements and similar plans if you find out that the dates won’t work because of a child custody problem.

There might not be such a big issue if you plan to stay home because then you can be pretty flexible with the dates that you will have your child. If you plan on working, you may need to hash out the details now so that you can find child care for the days that you will need someone to watch the children.

If there are any disagreements about the interpretation of the child custody order, you can find out about your options to handle them now. This might include turning to the court for clarification or modification of the orders.
