Boyfriend arrested after domestic dispute ends with woman’s death

Domestic violence is an epidemic in our country, with millions of victims being abused each year. Sometimes, the violence ends with the victim’s death, as it allegedly did in this case.

Police were called to a domestic incident about 11:30 p.m. recently. Upon their arrival, there was no victim there, but there was a crime scene. Later, police learned that a 46-year-old woman was at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she was receiving treatment to her upper body for severe trauma. Another woman, who was not identified, was also at the hospital with upper body injuries. She was later released from the hospital. The 46-year-old woman did not survive.

Police learned from witnesses who the suspect was. He reportedly was the deceased woman’s boyfriend and the two were in and out of a relationship for several years. After authorities searched extensively and were engaged in a foot pursuit, the man was located and arrested. According to detectives, the man attacked his girlfriend many times with a sharp weapon. The other woman was injured when she tried to stop the attack.

The man now faces charges for first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, attempt first and second degree murder, two counts of dangerous weapon with intent to injure and two counts of reckless endangerment.

An interim order may be obtained without the other party being aware of it and an attorney is not needed. The hearing for the temporary order is generally within seven days. Since the alleged abuser can offer the court a defense as to his or her actions, it is advisable that a lawyer is retained for the plaintiff. The final protective order is valid for a year and the court can renew it. Temporary custody of a child may also be awarded in a final protective order, as can emergency family maintenance.
