Baltimore man charged with assault and weapon violations

One of the negative aspects of a criminal conviction in Baltimore is that any future arrests may carry enhanced consequences. This holds true for drunk driving, sex crimes and other types of criminal charges.

It was recently reported that a Baltimore man has been charged with assault and weapon violations. The charges he is facing today are directly related to a previous conviction.

According to news sources, the Baltimore man was convicted previously of armed robbery. As a condition of his parole, he is not allowed to possess any firearms. His recent arrest came after area residents called 911 claiming that they saw a man with a gun on the 1200 block of Carroll Street. The Baltimore man lives on that street.

When police arrived, they claim that the Baltimore man pointed the gun at them. He was arrested outside of his home without incident and charged with first- and second-degree assault, presumably for pointing a gun.

It was not stated what probable cause the police had to enter the man’s home, but they did. Once inside they found 16 different types of handguns, shotguns and rifles. Had he not had the prior conviction, these guns may not have led to weapon violations.

When a person makes a plea deal and pleads guilty with credit for time served, or some other similar arrangement, he or she may be thinking primarily of the present moment and additional jail time. An important consideration however is what a conviction or guilty plea does in terms of potential future criminal charges, professional licensing or other issues. An experienced and skilled attorney can help guide a person through these types of important decisions.
