Baltimore Gang Members Facing Weapons, Murder, Assault Charges

While gangs seem to be something you don’t hear about as much anywhere, gang activity is rampant in many parts of the country, including Baltimore. Some of these gangs are violent, using weapons to injure and even kill others.

Eleven members of the “39 Babies” gang have been indicted on hundreds of multiple criminal charges, including assault, murder, and weapons charges. Members of the gang, also known as “GreenTeam” were seen in a music video flaunting guns at a nearby elementary school. The video was seen hundreds of thousands of times. The gang members were also seen posing with guns and money on social media sites.

The Baltimore Police Department worked in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to arrest and charge the gang members. The investigation into the gang began after they were linked to the weapons used in two Baltimore murders. They have also been linked to homicides, firearm discharges, non-fatal shootings, carjackings, and other crimes.

Altogether, 39 Babies is connected to eight attempted murders and four homicides. One victim was a 17-year-old boy, who was killed by members of the gang in 2019. The gang was linked to cocaine and would use threats and violence to control their product and territory.

So far, 10 of the gang members have been arrested. All are between the ages of 19 and 22. One member is still wanted by police. He is a 19-year-old man who is considered armed and dangerous. He has been charged with two counts of conspiracy. Anyone with information leading to his arrest may receive a $5,000 reward.

What Do Gangs Do?

A gang is defined as an organized group of criminals. Gang members are always looking to start trouble. They actively seek confrontations with rivals, and this often leads to violence through weapons crimes, including assaults and murders. Many gangs also engage in theft, arson, carjackings, and other crimes. These crimes often involve innocent people.

Drive-by shootings are the most common violent crimes committed by gangs. One gang will seek out the homes, vehicles, or common hangout spots of a rival gang and drive by and shoot at the members.

Vandalism is also common with gangs. Although they prefer abandoned houses and buildings, gangs have also been known to target occupied homes and local businesses. This causes fear in the community, resulting in lost revenues.
