Anne Arundel County police arrest 18-year-old for theft

On the morning of June 18, police in Anne Arundel County detained an 18-year-old on suspicion of vehicular burglary. According to reports, officers said that they responded to a report near Double Eagle Drive’s 300 block at around 4:30 a.m. The officers subsequently received details about a man who was reportedly rummaging through a vehicle with another individual and detained the 18-year-old because he matched the description.

Reports say that the 18-year-old had been detained earlier during the same month for allegedly stealing things out of a vehicle and that police believe him to have been involved in approximately 30 Glen Burnie burglaries. For the most recent incident, he faces theft charges, but it is uncertain how these indictments will relate to the previous arrest.

According to reports, the 18-year-old admitted to stealing property from inside a vehicle after the authorities confronted him. Police also allegedly discovered some stolen articles in the vicinity, and reports say that the owner of the possessions identified them later. The charges against the teen include theft under $1,000 and theft under $100.

When a person has been charged with a large number of violations, he or she may be faced with excessive penalties if convicted on all counts. However, in some cases, an attorney working with the defendant may be able to negotiate a plea deal that results in a reduction in charges and the related penalties. Depending on the situation, after reviewing the available evidence, the attorney might also suggest that the defendant take the case to trial, which may result in an acquittal.
