4 arrested under suspected apartment theft and burglary

Four people were recently arrested after a multitude of burglaries throughout the Germantown and Gaithersburg areas. Maryland police suspect that the four worked together and burglarized numerous apartment complexes during the daytime over a span of two months. Each person has been arrested and now faces charges of theft and burglary.

According to the report, 11 apartment complexes were burglarized during October and November. Police investigating the crimes have stated that the doors to the burglarized residences were either unlocked or did not have their second lock fastened. The report does not detail what types of items were taken from the residences, nor does it give an approximate cash value for the stolen items.

In mid-November, police began to focus on the four accused persons as their main suspects. The report does not make it clear why police chose to focus on these four. Nevertheless, the suspects — ages 16, 17, 18 and 25 — were apprehended and charged. The identities of the minors have not been released, nor has information about whether they will be tried as adults or in juvenile court.

Each accused person faces charges of theft and burglary. In the case of the minors, the direction in which they take their Maryland criminal defense depends on whether they will be tried in juvenile or adult court. If tried in juvenile court, chances are that they will receive less severe sentences than the two adults, if all four are convicted. Regardless, both the minors and the adults will need to begin preparing their criminal defenses as the long road toward a resolution of the criminal allegations progresses.
