3 Maryland Residents Face Theft Charges

Many people have stolen an item from a store. Maybe they did it because they really needed something, but couldn’t afford it, like food. In some cases, people do it because they are pressured to do so. Perhaps they do it as an act of rebellion. They know that theft is wrong, but they do it anyway because if they don’t get caught, they can benefit.

Three Maryland residents were recently arrested for their roles in a theft scheme at a Walmart in Mount Airy. A 39-year-old man from Nottingham, a 53-year-old woman from Parkville and a 43-year-old man from Forest Hill were charged with theft and other crimes after stealing multiple items from the Walmart on April 8.

Police arrived at the Walmart in Mount Airy after the manager reported that there were four people wearing neon vests. Police stopped a man wearing an orange vest and carrying a plastic tote out of the store. Another man was following him and he was wearing a neon yellow vest.

The assistant store manager said the first man walked out of the store without paying for the plastic tote. Inside the tote were various items, including two Braun electric razors and various electronics. In all, the items totaled $1,380.87. Police arrested the man.

According to the manager, two other people were hiding items in a cart , but then they abandoned the cart and walked toward the front of the store. The woman walked out of the store with three handbags. However, surveillance video showed her walking in with just two handbags. She was detained by police while exiting the store. She was with another person, who was released by police.

A 39-year-old man from Nottingham was charged with theft between $100 to $1,500, theft scheme between $100 to $1,500, false statement to a peace officer and violation of a state of emergency. He is currently in jail on $3,000 bail. He has a court date scheduled for June 23.
