2 men charged with theft in Maryland

Police say that two men believed to have stolen radiators, batteries and stereo equipment from cars in a parking lot in Odenton were taken into custody. The 30-year-old and 28-year-old suspects allegedly cut through a fence to get into the parking lot in the 8300 block of Lokus Road.

Authorities say that surveillance videos helped them to catch the suspects. They were charged with theft, burglary and destruction of property, and police say that all of the stolen property has been recovered. Additionally, a hacksaw and bolt cutters were recovered by police. There was no information as to whether the men were still in custody or if they were allowed to post bail or bond.

In a criminal case, a defendant may be sentenced to time in jail, probation or a fine. For more serious felony cases, it may be possible for an individual to spend time in prison. Depending on the criminal history of someone suspected of a criminal offense, it may be possible to avoid jail and spend time on probation instead. If a jail sentence is suspended, that sentence could later be enforced if a defendant is taken into custody or otherwise defies the conditions of the suspended sentence.

When charged with a criminal offense, it may be possible to dispute the charge with the help of a criminal defense attorney. An attorney may be able to review evidence in the case and strategically dispute that evidence in court. In some cases, it may be possible to ask for acquittal due to insanity or because the act was performed in self-defense. If successful, that person accused of the crime could be acquitted and have the charge expunged from his or her record.
