Man accused of committing string of Home Depot thefts

Anne Arundel County police have accused a man of committing five separate thefts or attempted thefts at the same Home Depot store in Glen Burnie. The alleged criminal activity began on April 4 and amounted to $2,423 in stolen property. Police identified the 54-year-old man after an employee at Home Depot copied the man's driver's license information during the latest incident.

On May 2, police received a call about an alleged theft that had taken place at the Home Depot store on Mountain Road. According to testimony from a loss prevention officer, the accused man took multiple items from a store shelf before trying to return them with no receipt. The total value of the items was reportedly $567. Before he left, the man attempted to use his Maryland driver's license to make the return.

When the man was told he could not complete the return, he allegedly fled the store with the unpaid items. An investigation into the incident revealed that the same man was responsible for four other thefts or attempted thefts at the same store. Investigators were then able to locate the accused man's truck in Severna Park. Police pulled the man over in a traffic stop on July 2 and charged him with the alleged thefts.

It's possible that the man who was charged in this case was falsely identified. If he wishes to plead not guilty, an attorney may be able to help him to gather evidence proving he was not the man responsible for the thefts at Home Depot. While building his defense, the man may ask the prosecution why police waited two months after the theft took place before they stopped his vehicle.
