Child support enforcement arrests man who owes over $100,000

Maryland child support laws require that the child's needs be met. If the person ordered to pay child support fails to do so, child support enforcement will pursue that person and possibly incarcerate him or her until the payments are up to date. A Howard County child support lawyer often sees circumstances in which payments are not being made as they are legally mandated.

A 45-year-old man who owes over $100,000 in child support payments was arrested outside of his home. It is the 12th time he has been arrested for not paying child support. The man had previously been ordered to seek alternative housing until $5,000 he owed in child support was paid. He also had the option of finding full-time employment and being subjected to wage garnishment to pay his debts.

The idea of child support is to ensure that the children are cared for sufficiently. In some instances, however, the person who is required to pay fails to do so. This is one of the many problems that can occur when a couple shares a child and is no longer together, married or not. Issues such as custody, visitation rights, alterations to the agreement, parental relocation and paternity also crop up. People who are involved in a custody dispute whether it's in process or completed must be aware of how the law works.

In this case, the man owes a significant amount of money and has repeatedly been arrested for failing to make the required payments. His failure resulted in his arrest. Parents who are involved in a dispute regarding support need to get the proper child support information to be paid or to avoid being arrested if they are the supporting parent. A legal professional is able to provide assistance in understanding Maryland child support laws.
