3 teenagers arrested on drug charges relating to marijuana, hash

Police took a total of three Maryland teenagers into custody on charges of drug possession recently. The Maryland teens were pulled over by police on Saturday, Nov. 2, for allegedly operating a motor vehicle at night with one headlight out. Law enforcement officials claim that, during the traffic stop, they detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. That led to the arrests and subsequent drug charges.

Because the individuals were between the ages of 16 and 17, their case was referred to Juvenile Services. In addition to the smell of marijuana, police claim that they discovered various components of devices that can be used for smoking drugs. Allegedly, they also found what they believe to be a small bag of marijuana, in addition to some suspected hash oil.

The Department of Juvenile Services will handle the case from here on out. The teens were charged with drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession. While it appears that all of the teens will face these possession charges, it may be that the teen who was driving the car will face additional charges relating to driving under the influence and operating a vehicle with a broken headlight. The teens were later released into the custody of their parents.

Juvenile drug charges may involve a different legal defense approach than adult drug charges in the state of Maryland. Not only are potential punishments different for teenagers under the age of 18, but the court system and the Department of Juvenile Services may involve the parents in any disciplinary process. Still, just like any drug crimes accusations, any teenager who has been accused will remain innocent until and only if he or she is convicted of the crimes in a court of law.
