Maryland woman faces criminal charges after shooting spree death

A dispute between neighbors developed into a shooting spree in which a 21-year-old woman was killed. Three other women were injured by gunshot wounds. A 29-year-old Maryland woman from Baltimore was arrested and is facing serious criminal charges for her alleged role in the shooting incident.

The incidents leading to the shootings began on a Thursday night, June 27, when a dispute between the arrested woman and a neighbor grew heated. According to the homicide report, the argument escalated and the neighbor called members of her family over to protect her from the woman now in custody. Witnesses claim the arrested woman then left after threatening to 'mess up this whole block.'

Shortly after she left, she returned a little after 9 p.m. with two men who have not yet been identified. She then allegedly directed the unidentified men to begin shooting at the porch where the other women were standing. One man began shooting at the porch resulting in the death of one woman neighbor and multiple gunshot wounds being suffered by three others. The trio fled the scene and the woman who allegedly directed the shooting was later found by police, arrested, and held without bond. The two men have not been found and remain unidentified.

Despite the violent nature of the criminal charges, the Baltimore woman is nevertheless still accorded by law the same legal protections that apply to all individuals accused of criminal acts. No criminal conviction can occur in Maryland in the absence of competent and relevant evidence that complies with a stringent burden of proof. The woman being held in custody will require a vigorous and compelling criminal defense if she hopes to regain her freedom and fight the charges filed against her.
