Baltimore woman accused of attempted murder for car accident

When an accident occurs in Baltimore or elsewhere, there are always those who say it could have been prevented or that it was not an accident at all. In some cases those naysayers could be correct, but in a court of law everyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt.

The innocence of a Baltimore woman has been called into question for a car accident in which she allegedly ran over a man. The police are calling it assault and attempted murder.

According to news sources, a dark sedan was seen hitting a man at a gas station and driving over him. The 35-year-old man was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of injuries to his head, face, torso and leg. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses and surveillance video were used to connect the accident to a 19-year-old woman who had a Lexus with front end damage. A partial license plate may have been visible in some of the closed-circuit television monitoring.

The police stated that there was no prior relationship between the man and the woman prior to some sort of disagreement at the gas station, after which the 19-year-old ran over the 35-year-old. Whether it was unintentional or intentional may be a question for a judge or jury to decide. It seems perfectly reasonable that although the two individuals had a disagreement, that running into and over the man was an accident, after which the 19-year-old was frightened and fled.

The 19-year-old has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault. She has not been charged with a hit-and-run violation.
