Maryland's DNA collection process changes again

Back in May, we shared a post about the DNA collection process following Maryland felony arrests. The Court of Appeals in Maryland temporarily halted law enforcement's freedom to swab suspects for DNA samples, believing that such evidence collection was too personally invasive following a mere arrest.

Think you won't get a ticket for driving 1 MPH over speed limit?

Most of us have been in the situation wherein we are driving, see a police officer near us and then we quickly check how fast we are going. Even if we see that we were driving over the posted speed limit, if we were just driving 33 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, we might be relieved. An officer wouldn't pull someone over for that, right?

Maryland officials trying to clean up theft of Tide detergent

When doing your laundry these days, you might be considered a fortunate person if you are using Tide as your detergent. The cost of the popular product has reportedly increased during this dark economy, making the cleaning product a tempting target for theft.

New speeding cameras now at work in Baltimore County

Despite the debate surrounding law enforcement tools such as red light cameras and speeding cameras, officials in Baltimore County have moved forward and put several more of the tools to work. The newest cameras are meant to prevent speeding and car accidents around schools.

Maryland Program Offers Parenting Help for Non-Custodial Dads

It isn't always easy for Maryland fathers to support their children. The recent recession has only made this problem worse; with a lot of the good jobs gone, many dads have found it difficult to find work that pays enough to meet child support obligations. Many fathers wind up in arrears, and some are even sentenced to jail as a result of their failure to pay.

Controversial assault case ends favorably for Baltimore defendant

Convicted on an assault charge, a former neighborhood watch member was recently handed a sentence of three years probation, far short of the ten years of prison time he faced for a November 2010 attack on a black teenager. The Baltimore pre-law student's defense consisted in part of members of his community speaking up for his character in order to combat the assault and false imprisonment charges. Despite those testimonies, the recent verdict stirs debate within the community.

July: Most dangerous month in Maryland for DUI boating

This week is a cause for celebration. The Fourth of July holiday is just a couple of days away, if you are not off of work already. For those looking to enjoy the holiday on the water, they might want to be careful. July, particularly on Saturdays, is the most popular time when boating accidents occur on Maryland waters.
