Former teen star turns to president for DUI help, unsuccessfully

Who would you turn to if you were arrested and accused of driving drunk? A logical person would likely think to turn to a trusted criminal defense attorney with experience fighting DUIs in their area. Also, a defendant might seek the advice and support from their family members and friends.

But would you call out to the President of the United States to come to your aid? You might, if you were the former tween star Amanda Bynes. She was arrested for driving under the influence in April and has insisted since then that she was not driving drunk. Her father has echoed that argument.

Though Bynes is 26 years old, her dad is still not above trying to defend his daughter's reputation and future. He has argued that Bynes doesn't drink, suggesting that something unethical or a mistake has led to her arrest and subsequent criminal charges.

Last week, Bynes was officially charged with DUI and refusing a Breathalyzer and blood test. She pleaded not guilty to the charges, the details of her defense yet to be thoroughly put forward. Based on her plea to President Obama, however, it sounds like she believes the arresting officer was in the wrong on the night of her DUI arrest. She directed a tweet to Obama, asking that he get the officer fired.

Unsurprisingly, the president has taken no action to defend Bynes or go after her arresting officer. He's a bit busy these days. The source of effective support for the celebrity defendant should be her attorney. Working with a straight forward, trustworthy defense lawyer will be a much more realistic way to try to mitigate the situation.
