Teen arrested in connection with fatal shooting

A teen who was involved in a Baltimore youth program stands accused of being involved in a shooting which killed one of the program's mentors. Authorities have charged the 19-year-old with first-degree murder and attempted murder. The mentor and a 31-year-old man were shot on Wednesday in a car. Prosecutors allege that the shooting happened during an argument and that the teen was in the back of the car when the argument happened.

Being accused of a violent crime is one of the most serious situations that a Baltimore resident can face. There are many different degrees of violent crimes and each particular charge can carry significant penalties. Being accused of a violent crime also carries a significant social stigma which may make it difficult to find housing or employment after a conviction.

In this particular case there are many unknown factors which may impact the outcome of any case against the teen. It is not known what sparked the argument which culminated in the shooting. It is also unknown whether the teen legally owned the gun he allegedly used during the shooting or whether authorities have evidence which links the teen to the gun.

The teen was previously arrested for assault, but that charge was dropped. The teen's grandfather said that he was shocked to learn that his grandson was charged with a violent crime.

"This isn't a troubled kid," the teen's grandfather said. "This boy had good potential. Me and his grandmother, we did everything we could, we just couldn't afford to send him to college. I wish we could."
